Empowering rural communities in Mali trough through solar powered agriculture and mobility
2021-2024Empowering rural communities in Mali trough through solar powered agriculture and mobility
Intervention Area : Ouré, Bougouni region.
Bénéficiaries : Grassroots populations, young people and women of Ouré in the Bougouni region.
Project partners : ACCESS and MFC
Global budget
The project aims to establish a pilot greenhouse farming system powered by photovoltaic energy in rural village of Ouré, in Bougoni region, benefiting around 2,500 people. The first year saw strong local support, with over 100 participants at the launch workshop. Over 250 women and youth have been organized in cooperatives and trained in the cooperative administration.
They have been trained also in production of organic fertilizers and bio pesticides. Technical achievements include successful borehole drilling, installing a 30-kWp solar power station, water pump, and storage tower. A decision was made to locally produce greenhouses, agri-voltaic supports and cooling units.
Additional hardware like a small tractor, bio-fertilizer equipment, and e-mobility systems were procured. Sustainable cooling units and a greenhouse are planned for post-rainy season installation due to accessibility challenges. These efforts have laid a solid foundation for socio-economic improvements in Ouré and future scalability elsewhere.
